This course is taught from our CU Coventry or CU Dagenham location.
Explore the science behind human health, disease and discovery.
Applied biosciences bring together biology, chemistry and practical laboratory science to help you understand life from molecules and cells through to body systems, disease and human health. This degree is designed to help you build scientific knowledge, research confidence and practical skills for future study or possible careers in bioscience, health and laboratory-related sectors.
On this course, you’ll study key areas of applied bioscience, including chemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, and pathophysiology.
You’ll explore how the human body works, how disease develops, and how scientific research can support understanding, prevention and management of illness. The course looks at health and disease from different scientific perspectives, helping you connect laboratory science with real issues in human health, public health, biotechnology and medical research.
Practical learning is an important part of the course. You’ll develop laboratory, data handling, scientific writing and research skills through taught activities and an independent applied bioscience project. You’ll also build transferable skills in analysis, problem-solving, communication and presenting scientific findings.
Study applied bioscience
Explore biology, chemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology and pathophysiology.
Connect science with human health
Examine how the body works, how disease develops and how bioscience can support understanding, prevention and management of illness.
Build laboratory confidence
Develop practical skills in safe laboratory working, scientific techniques, risk awareness, data handling, report writing and communicating results.
Explore infection and immunity
Study microorganisms, parasites, pathogens and infectious diseases, including how microbes affect personal and public health.
Develop research skills
Build confidence in reading scientific literature, interpreting data, designing investigations and presenting findings clearly.
Prepare for bioscience futures
Develop knowledge and transferable skills for further study or possible routes in bioscience, healthcare science, research, laboratory work, biotechnology, public health, education or related sectors.
Study one module at a time
Focus on one 30-credit module over a six-week block. This approach uses practical, exam-free assessments to build your knowledge step by step with regular feedback.
This course is also offered as a degree with foundation year, and includes a sandwich (placement year) option. For the most update to date course details, please visit our website.
