Course summary

This 12 month full-time (3 year part-time) intensive Masters course is aimed at science graduates giving them knowledge and understanding of human nutrition and developing scientific research skills to an advanced level. Taught semesters provide study in core modules in human and clinical nutrition progressing to an independent nutrition research project which is integral to this programme.

Human nutrition is the scientific study of the foods we eat, the nutrients in foods, the fate of the nutrients when they are eaten and the effects of diet on health and wellbeing. As a graduate nutritionist you will have the skills to scientifically evaluate the effects of diet on human health and wellbeing.

Graduates go on to work in a variety of areas in the field of nutrition such as research, health promotion, public health, food production companies, nutrition organisations, or personalised nutrition in the areas of metabolomics, nutrigenomics or in nutrition overseas. Alternatively, graduates may progress to
a PHD, further taught study, or complete a PGCE to train to become a teacher.

(The University regularly ‘refreshes’ courses to make sure they are as up-to-date as possible. In addition it undertakes formal periodic review of courses in a process called 'revalidation’ to ensure that they continue to meet standards and are current and relevant. This course will be revalidated in the near future and it is possible that there will be some changes to the course as described in this prospectus.)
