The BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) at Health Sciences University is a three year, full time course designed to prepare you for a rewarding career as a radiographer.

Radiographers are at the forefront of healthcare. 95% of the population will have interacted with a diagnostic radiographer who undertake medical imaging for diagnoses using specialised technical equipment such as x-ray, CT scanning, MRI scanning, Nuclear medicin and Ultrasound. 1 in 2 of the population will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and of these up to a 1/3rd will receive radiotherapy which is a technical but empathetic profession using high energy x-rays to treat tumours.

Our BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) course provides you with all the training and knowledge you need to become a fully qualified practitioner and you’ll learn a variety of skills that will enable you to shape the future health and wellbeing of both individuals and society. You’ll be taught how to work under pressure and to make decisions under significant time restraints.

This course will teach you to think critically and analytically and will encourage you to become self-aware, reflective and empathetic.

Once you’ve completed the course you’ll have the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team across the hospital, from A&E to surgery, and will be fully equipped to embark on a challenging and rewarding career in radiography.

This course is accredited by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) for eligibility to apply for registration.

How you will be assessed

Assessment on the BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) course is designed to support your development, not simply test what you know. Across the course, you will build the skills, confidence and professional judgement needed to become a safe, reflective and practice ready radiographer. You will be assessed through a range of methods, including group work, presentations, coursework, practical assessments, portfolio development and examinations.

These assessments reflect the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours used in real radiography practice, helping you show not only what you know, but how you apply your learning safely and effectively.

Applicants are also expected to hold 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (C) including English and Maths or equivalent.

For mature or non-traditional applicants consideration will be given to individual circumstances.

Interview
Health Checks
Students are required to complete Occupational Health clearance prior to enrolment. Students are responsible for covering the cost of this. You will also be asked to complete an immunisation screening to confirm that you meet immunity requirements for your placements. You will be asked to provide evidence of your immunity and vaccination history. You are strongly advised to ensure your vaccinations are up-to date and to request evidence of your current immunisation status for your doctor as soon as possible as delays can impact the start of placements. If you cannot provide evidence of immunity, you will be invited to attend one of our on-campus vaccination clinics for a blood test to assess your immunity levels and to receive any vaccinations you require for your placements.
Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) / Disclosure Scotland Check
All students on this course must complete a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check prior to enrolment. Students who have been resident outside the UK for a period of 6 months or more in the past 3 years must also provide a Police Check from the country they are/were living in. Students are required to sign up for the DBS Update Service for the duration of their studies to ensure their DBS status remains up-to-date. Students are expected to cover the cost of the Enhanced DBS, Police Check (if required) and the update service.

Additional fee information

This fee applies to the 2027/28 academic year only. Fees may be subject to change in subsequent years in line with maximum tuition fee caps set by the UK Government.

Students are required to undertake an Enhanced DBS Check prior to enrolment and to sign up to the DBS Update Service for the duration of their studies. These costs must be covered by the student.
