A degree in Mechanical Engineering is the basis for a professional career in a broad range of industry sectors. Our professionally accredited degree programmes offer an exciting blend of learning experiences designed to ensure our students not only master the scientific fundamentals, but also develop the skills, attitudes and experience demanded by 21st century engineering and society.

This programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

This programme is available with either a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). You can choose either the China Studies Track, where you will take courses from the China Studies Degree, the Creative Track, or the Entrepreneurship Track . XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. The Year Abroad offers students the opportunity to spend a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and/or discipline-related modules. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China or a Year Abroad you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.

AAB

Including Mathematics and a second science

Applicants following the modular Mathematics A Level must be studying A Level Physics or Further Mathematics as the second science (or must be studying at least one Mechanics module in their Mathematics A Level).

Acceptable second sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Economics, Electronics, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology Human Biology, Statistics, Further Mathematics and Physics.

For applicants from England: Where a science has been taken at A level (Chemistry, Biology or Physics), a pass in the Science practical of each subject will be required.

Some Level 3 qualifications are only acceptable alongside 2 or 3 A levels, please contact us for details.

T Level

Science T Level or Engineering T Level considered with A level Mathematics. Typical offer would be Distinction overall, with a grade A in the Core Component and a Merit in the Specialism Component.

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Extended Project

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and 3 A levels and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be AAB or ABB plus A in the EPQ.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Offer: 34

34 points overall with no score less than 4 and including 5 in HL Mathematics and 5 in HL Physics, or pass the IB Diploma with 6,6,5 in 3 Higher Level subjects, including 5 in HL Mathematics and 5 in HL Physics.

If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2027, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

Tuition fees are subject to increase each year, subject to the government’s regulated fee limits. For UK students applying for 2027 entry the Tuition Fee is £10,050.
