This one year course is designed for students who have completed the Foundation Degree in Children, Young People and their Services or equivalent Level 5 qualification with transferable modules. The BA in Children, Schools and Families (Graduate Practitioner) has been designed to provide you with the underpinning theoretical knowledge and practical learning opportunities which will build a firm basis for developing a career working with children and young people and the services that support them. The course will also provide a good foundation should you later choose to progress onto postgraduate study and research in the social sciences, education or social work or be planning to take further study and assessment to gain named professional awards.
During this 1 year programme, knowledge and understanding of key topics and developments, such as social and educational policies, processes and outcomes in a variety of contexts relevant to children, schools and families., will be enhanced through educational visits and guest speakers.
Teaching is delivered by a team with varied experience and substantial specialist knowledge in working with children schools and families. As a result, a wide range teaching, learning and assessment methods are employed, including lectures, seminars, debates, display work, essays, case studies, presentations, reports, research activities, portfolios and group work.
You will have access to learning resources at the Hugh Baird University Centre and the University of Central Lancashire, including e-learning resources and the opportunity to use Athens.
A range of assessment methods is used to extend and demonstrate students’ learning, including: • Essays • Critiques • Reports • Exercises • Case studies • Projects • Individual and group oral presentations
