Course summary

Our four-year Human and Physical Geography with Integrated Master's bridges the natural and social world, taking your understanding of both to master's level. Through advanced training in fieldwork, laboratory techniques and data analysis, you'll develop advanced independent research skills across multiple fields, preparing you for specialist careers or progression to doctoral study.

Why choose this course?

  • Top 5 in England for Geography (NSS 2025, broad-based universities)*

  • Top 5 in the UK for Geography (Daily Mail University Guide, 2026)

  • From our 600-acre campus to field courses across the UK, your learning takes place in real-world environments

  • Build high-level employability skills through training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), fieldwork, and data analysis

  • Graduate with a master's degree while developing advanced research expertise through an extended MSci project

Our Human and Physical Geography MSci offers an advanced understanding of the Earth's landscapes, environments, and the relationship between people and the natural world. By combining both branches of the discipline to master's level, you will develop the broad, connected perspective that employers and research institutions increasingly value in geography graduates.

The course covers a wide range of topics, such as climate change, Earth's landscapes and landforms, glaciers, rivers, coasts, sustainable development, planning, and health inequalities. A prominent theme of environmental geography runs throughout, connecting these topics through a shared focus on sustainability and environmental justice. Blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills, you will explore diverse research methods, master Geographic Information Systems (computer systems that produce connected visualisations of geospatial data), and put your learning into practice through fieldwork on and off our 600-acre campus.

About Keele

Keele University was established in 1949 by the former Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University. Founded to meet the needs of a changing world, Keele has always had a pioneering vision to be a different kind of university.

We excel in both teaching and research, with some of the most satisfied students in England, and research that is changing lives for the better at a regional, national and global level.

Our beautiful 600-acre campus is one of the biggest in Britain – but all the most important services and facilities are on your doorstep, with accommodation, teaching spaces, facilities including a medical centre, sports centre and pharmacy, and a range of shops, eateries and entertainment venues – including the Students’ Union – clustered around the centre.

*We have compared the positivity ratings of all participating UK institutions using the NSS 2025 sector data to determine Keele's position relative to other broad-based universities (i.e. excluding specialist institutions and further education colleges).
