Course Overview
Our master’s degree in Counter Terrorism offers an in-depth understanding of legislation and policy. It's taught by expert practitioners with extensive experience.
On our postgraduate Counter Terrorism course, you'll also learn about the latest methods used to deal with the changing face of violent extremism in the UK and internationally. This will enhance your career prospects.
You’ll be taught using a combination of lectures, interactive seminars and self-directed study. This will help you develop theoretical knowledge and practical application of the key aspects of counter terrorism.

The course team maintain strong links with counter terrorism agencies and the police service, especially within the North West of England.
What you'll do
You’ll build an interdisciplinary understanding of individual and organisational involvement in terrorism, together with an understanding of national and international approaches to counter-terrorism and countering violent extremism (CVE).
You’ll benefit from our specialist facilities, laboratories and equipment.
The course is delivered by around 12 serving or retired practitioners who are experts in their respective fields.
Future Careers
Typically, MSc/PGDip/PGCert Counter Terrorism graduates continue in their specialist posts, with enhanced career prospects.
Graduates can move into consultancy, or move careers into counter terrorism-related roles within the police or security services. Progression to PhD is available within the School.
