This MEng degree equips you with the underlying knowledge and skills you need to become a creative Civil and Structural Engineer, capable of planning, designing and overseeing the construction of sustainable structures and transport infrastructure systems.
Civil and Structural Engineering involves the design, construction, and maintenance and repair of infrastructure such as roads and bridges, buildings, and underground transport systems.
You’ll develop a broad knowledge of geotechnical, structural, environmental and management aspects of civil engineering, and gain the computing, mathematical, drawing and communication skills you need as an engineer.
On completion of the programme you’ll be able to enter range of graduate civil engineering roles. You’ll be joining a dynamic profession with a high demand for skilled graduates, and contribute to the prosperity of our society.
Professional Accreditation
The single honours MEng in Civil and Structural Engineering course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) on behalf of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). It's recognised by the UK Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
This means you'll have a great head start to a professional engineering career in the built environment and related engineering design, development, analysis and operations fields with widespread international recognition for your degree.

We deliver our modules using innovative teaching methods that combine theory with practice.
You’ll undertake a range of design exercises where you’ll address real industry problems/scenarios.
These projects enable you to apply your theoretical knowledge, while improving your communication skills.
Teaching methods include formal lectures, case studies, tutorial exercises, practical demonstrations, site visits, directed learning, group and individual work. Modules are assessed through formal written examinations, class tests, analytical and experimental coursework, presentations.
Students must achieve a stage progression average of 50% or above to continue on the MEng..
