If you are thinking of studying architecture and have a particular interest in environmental design, our four-year MEng Architecture and Environmental Design course could be the perfect fit for you. You’ll combine technical expertise with a focus on environmental sustainability, equipping you with the specialist knowledge needed to develop high-quality architecture that also shows a comprehensive understanding of climate challenges.
Architecture shapes the spaces where life unfolds: our homes, schools, theatres, hospitals and the environments that connect us. At Nottingham, you’ll learn to design with creativity and purpose.
Year one studio modules provide a strong foundation with a focus on the fundamental skills of design and presentation. In later years, you’ll have the freedom to choose from up to 12 design studio units, allowing you to explore areas that interest you the most. You’ll also join our vertical studios, working alongside students from different years in a collaborative environment that encourages peer mentoring and creative exchange.
Learning goes beyond the classroom, with a mixture of workshops, study trips and real-world projects involving clients and industry experts—giving you the experience that architectural practice and design-based industries seek.
Based on our University Park campus, you’ll have access to exceptional facilities, including dedicated studio spaces, advanced workshops and research labs equipped with the latest renewable energy technologies, supported by a skilled technical team.
You’ll have opportunities to showcase your work in prestigious competitions such as the CIBSE Young Engineer Award and the Royal Academy British Institution (RIBA) Award for Students’ Work. The quality of work produced by our students is illustrated by the many national and international awards they have won, including the AJ Student Prize 2021 (undergraduate category), the RIBA Bronze Medal (2017) and the RIBA Serjeant Award for Excellence in Drawing at Part 1 (2020).
Fully validated by Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA https://www.riba.org), the course supports exemption from Part One of the three-part qualification programme for professional architects in the UK. It is also accredited by the Engineering Council through the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).
