Course summary

MA Photography is a practice-based programme designed to test, push and extend the boundaries of what contemporary photography is. With a specialist focus on the materials and technologies of publishing and exhibition making, you will work in a critical and supportive environment with a diverse group of interests. Through practical exploration and critical research, you will develop a unique practice tailored to your individual creative and professional ambitions.

Through hands-on exploration and critical research, you'll question and redefine photography, engaging with emerging technologies and ideas.

Based at the School of Digital Arts (SODA), you will join a vibrant community with access to a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities, including analogue and digital darkrooms, fully equipped photography studios, and 3D printing facilities based at PrintCity, as well as sound, green screen and editing suites.

  • You will become an integral part of the School of Digital Arts, home to a creative community of interdisciplinary research staff with expertise in diverse fields of practice such as animation, filmmaking, photography, games art, immersive arts and sound design.

  • You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including analogue and digital darkrooms, fully equipped photography studios, and 3D printing facilities based at PrintCity, as well as sound, green screen and editing suites.

  • You will benefit from our links to industry to build your network and access industry knowledge, with visiting speakers, guest lecturers and visits to galleries and exhibitions.
