The Biomedical Engineering (Healthcare Pathway) MSc is a programme for intercalating medical students and Life Science related, non-engineering graduates. The MSc provides students with a sound knowledge of the principles of the key sub-disciplines within biomedical engineering and develops skills vital to the role of engineering in Healthcare.
Please note that this programme is suitable for intercalating medical students.
BEng Aerospace, Mechanical or Civil Engineering Graduates from University of Liverpool are not eligible for this programme.
Biomedical engineers are vital to Healthcare
The scope of Biomedical Engineering in Healthcare encompasses many aspects and careers in:
Developing Medical devices for diagnosis, treatment & rehabilitation
Measurement, modelling, monitoring and simulation of human physiology and anatomy
Tissue engineering and biomaterials
Inventing & developing products for wellness & independent living.
Biomedical engineering components are found in a vast and ever increasing range of products; from Artificial organs, Biomaterials & regenerative engineering, Computer simulation for surgery and Image-guided robot surgery, to products for Independent living, Medical imaging, Neurotechnology, Orthopaedic implants, Tissue engineering and much more.
Although most teaching is through traditional lectures and practical classes, active learning methodologies are being introduced to many postgraduate modules to enhance the learning experience.
Assessment will take place through written examinations and continuous learning exercises. Many of the modules require students to develop skills in independent learning.
