Course Modules - Level 5

Module 1 - Exploring the Music Industry

In this module, you’ll dive into the exciting world of music products and industry debates. You’ll analyze how music is interpreted and received by different audiences, while exploring broader social, ethical, and cultural issues within the music industry. You’ll learn to use critical thinking and research tools to tackle key industry topics, preparing you for a successful career in the creative industries. Expect to engage in discussions, research, and practical workshops that explore industry challenges, sustainability, and ethical practices.

Module 2 - Advanced Technical Skills for Music Production

Level up your music production game in this hands-on module! You’ll enhance your skills in both hardware and software, mastering the techniques needed for a range of creative roles in the music industry. From advanced recording techniques to digital audio workstations (DAWs), this module covers it all. You’ll be challenged to refine your skills, tackle real-world scenarios, and work as part of a team. Module 3 - Audio-Visual Composition (20 Credits)

This module will take your creativity to the next level by teaching you how to create soundtracks for film, TV, and video games. You'll get hands-on experience in sound design, scoring, and interactive audio, learning how to align music and sound with storytelling. From creating mood and character through music to exploring how sound impacts interactive media like video games, you’ll develop the skills needed to compose audio-visual masterpieces. Module 4 - Write, Produce, Release

Ever wondered how a song goes from the studio to the world? This module takes you through the entire music release process, from ideation to production and distribution. Working in teams, you’ll create and release your own EP, navigating all the stages of production, marketing, and promotion. You’ll also dive into the legal and financial aspects of music release and learn how to engage your audience effectively. By the end, you'll have the hands-on experience of launching your own music project—an essential skill for any aspiring music producer.

Course Modules - Level 4

Module 1 - Studying the Music Industry

Get an inside look at how the music industry works with this core module. You'll explore the evolution of music genres, the key figures who shaped the industry, and the debates that drive today’s music scene. Through interactive lectures and workshops, you'll gain insights into music production, music history, and industry practices, while also building important academic skills. By the end of the course, you’ll understand the industry's inner workings and be able to present your knowledge professionally.

Module 2 - Technical Skills for Music Production

This hands-on module is all about building your technical know-how in music production. You’ll dive into the world of digital audio workstations (DAWs), learning everything from setting up recording sessions to mixing and mastering tracks. You’ll also develop your skills in recording, MIDI editing, and audio engineering. The practical approach lets you apply what you learn in real studio environments, giving you a solid foundation to work with artists and create music in a professional setting.

Module 3 - Digital Composition

Unlock your creativity and refine your skills as a digital composer. This module introduces you to the art of creating and producing original music using digital tools. Module 4 - Music Production Challenge

From brainstorming ideas to delivering polished tracks, this module will help you refine your technical and creative skills, while building your ability to work within tight deadlines and professional expectations. You’ll finish with a portfolio showcasing your work and a reflective blog on your experiences

Course Modules - Level 6

Module 1 - Industry Investigation

Take control of your learning by researching a topic that reflects your personal interests and future career goals within the creative industries. You’ll explore an area of contemporary debate, emerging trend, or professional issue in depth—applying research skills, critical analysis, and academic writing techniques to create a fully developed research project. This independent investigation allows you to showcase your intellectual curiosity and professional insight alongside your training in music production.

Module 2 - Music Production – Live Client Brief

Ready to take on the real world? This module gives you the chance to work on a live client brief, where you’ll collaborate with a client to create music or sound content that meets their specific needs. You’ll work in small teams, develop music products, and use your creative and technical skills to fulfill the client's expectations. From understanding their identity and audience to delivering content for various platforms, this module prepares you to thrive in professional, client-led projects and challenges. Expect to pitch ideas, collaborate, and receive feedback in a dynamic studio environment

Module 3 - Promotional Portfolio

This module is all about building your professional presence as a music producer. You’ll create a promotional portfolio that showcases your skills, creativity, and personal brand. From crafting your CV and bio to developing a website and promotional materials, you'll gain the tools to market yourself in the competitive music industry. You’ll also learn how to present your work effectively to potential clients and employers, setting you up for success as you launch your career in music production. Whether it’s for networking, job applications, or self-promotion, this module ensures you’re ready to make a lasting impression.

Module 4 - Music Production Major Project

In this exciting capstone module, you’ll get to showcase your skills by creating your very own music production project. Whether it’s producing an album, composing a soundtrack, or creating a live recording, this is your chance to bring your creative vision to life. You’ll research, plan, and execute your project from start to finish, working to industry standards and presenting your final output in a professional setting. This module is all about pushing your boundaries, testing new ideas, and producing a portfolio-worthy piece that demonstrates your unique style and expertise.

If you are taking 3 A levels you are required to achieve 96 UCAS tariff points from the 3 subjects you are taking

Achieve a minimum of 96 tariff points achieved from either five Highers or a combination of two Highers offered with two Advanced Highers. Where only Highers have been taken a minimum of (CCCCD) is required.

A Pass in an Access to HE Diploma in a subject relevant to the course you wish to study at LMA

Normally all applicants are required to have achieved a minimum of 4 GCSE's or equivalent at Grade 4 or above. This should include GCSE English Language or English Literature at Grade 4.

LMA are happy to accept a wide range of qualifications, including but not limited to: A Levels, BTEC Extended Diploma, OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma, BTEC Subsidiary Diploma(s), Access to HE courses, Scottish Highers, IB Diploma Programme, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, RSL Level 3 Diploma and T Levels.
We also welcome students who have a combination of qualifications - e.g. 2 A Levels and 1 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma and an extended project.
Our academic entry criteria from qualifications you are currently taking is 96 UCAS tariff points and your offer will be tailored to reflect this.

Additional entry requirements

As part of the application and admissions process for this LMA course, all applicants will be required to submit a digital audition.
