Nursing (Children and Young People) (R39-CYP)

Nursing is one of the most rewarding professions, placing you at the heart of patient care. Our BSc (Honours) Nursing offers Children and Young People’s Nursing as one of several specialisms, combining practice-based and online learning to give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver high-quality care. You’ll study four fields of nursing practice before specialising in Children and Young People. On completion, you’ll be eligible to join the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register as a qualified nurse. With your employer's support or through our partnerships, the OU offers routes into nursing, helping you achieve your ambition.

Course Modules

This nursing degree has three stages, each comprising 120 credits.

In Stage 1, you’ll study a 60-credit theory module alongside a 60-credit practice-based module that build a strong foundation in healthcare. You’ll explore the experience of giving and receiving care across a range of settings and develop the knowledge and skills required to reach progression point 1.

In Stage 2, you’ll study a 60-credit theory module and a 60-credit practice-based module that enhance your expertise and confidence as a caregiver. You’ll apply your knowledge through substantial practice learning opportunities and develop your skills through enquiry-based learning with peers.

In the final stage, Stage 3, you’ll study a 60-credit theory module and a 60-credit practice-based module focused on Children and Young People’s Nursing. You’ll develop advanced theory and practice skills, preparing you to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and begin your career as a registered nurse specialising in children and young people.
