A Brighton Adult Nursing degree prepares you for a rewarding career where you will tailor individual care, working closely with patients and their families as part of a team of health and social care professionals.

The course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), ensuring your qualification meets national standards. Successful completion of our Nursing (Adult) BSc(Hons) means you will be eligible to apply for registration with the NMC and practice as a nurse in the UK.

Year 1
In the first year, you’ll begin developing the essential skills to assess and plan care in partnership with individuals, considering their physical, mental, social and spiritual needs. You will explore human biology and how it relates to health and illness across the lifespan, laying the scientific foundation for your nursing practice. Alongside university-based learning, you’ll gain hands-on experience on clinical placement, where you'll start applying your knowledge in a real healthcare setting.

Year 2
In the second year, you’ll build on your foundational skills by learning how to promote health, prevent illness and care for people with long-term conditions. You will explore how nurses use evidence to improve care quality and safety, and develop your ability to respond to clinical deterioration with confidence and compassion. You’ll strengthen your decision-making, communication and teamwork to prepare you to deliver person-centred care in increasingly complex healthcare environments.

Final year
In your final year, you’ll focus on becoming a confident, autonomous practitioner ready to lead and shape the future of healthcare. You will enhance your clinical decision-making, develop leadership skills and learn to deliver compassionate care in complex situations – including palliative and end-of-life care. With advanced placements and opportunities to explore contemporary issues in nursing, you will graduate equipped to make a meaningful impact in diverse healthcare settings and advocate for high-quality, person-centred care.

Sponsorship information

NHS Learning Support Fund for Healthcare

The NHS Learning Support Fund (LSF) provides additional funding for eligible healthcare students. You can apply for a Training Grant of £5,000 per academic year, or a pro rata amount for part-time students. Students on certain courses can get a Special Subject Payment, which is an extra £1,000.

If you have at least one dependant child under 15 years old (or under 17 if registered with special educational needs) you can also receive Parental Support. This is a grant of £2,000 per academic year or a pro rata amount for part-time students.

If you paid for excess travel or temporary accommodation costs on a placement, you may be able to claim some of your costs back through Travel and Dual Accommodation Expenses.
