You will study the social factors of mental health and wellbeing, the roots of inequality, the need for social justice for those experiencing mental ill-health and how the practice can channel the positive benefits of social connection to help individuals.

The BSc (Hons) Mental Health & Wellbeing degree is available for students who already meet the criteria for entry to the 3-year route.
This foundation year route introduces to the student key study skills and foundational knowledge essential to successful completion of a degree
Please note, the foundation year can only be studied as a full time option.
Key Course Features:
During this course, you will study social factors that impact mental health and wellbeing, and the roots of inequality.
You will complete a research project in your final year, allowing you to develop expertise in an area that you feel passionate about.
You will learn in dynamic and innovative ways, including discussion of case studies, group work, and guest speakers from industry.
Opportunities to expand and tailor your knowledge and understanding according to your particular area of interest.
What you will study
YEAR 1 (LEVEL 3)
The Foundation Year is an integrated year where you will study core modules with a broad range of students from across the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences, giving you access to different perspectives and networking opportunities.
The modules will equip you with key skills needed for Higher Education and beyond. They will give you the chance to explore your subject area and available careers, allowing you to adapt your reading and assessments to be relevant to your degree pathway.
Alongside teaching from the broader faculty staff, you will be able to meet with staff and other students from your main degree pathway and get involved with events and opportunities that they are running.

During your second year, you will establish an understanding of key concepts within the field of health, mental health and wellbeing. You will also start your personal and professional development journey, and be supported to develop the key study skills to make your degree a success.

YEAR 3 (LEVEL 5)
During your third year, you will deepen your learning of core concepts within the field of mental health and wellbeing, including a focus on health behaviours and prevention. You will enhance your research skills, developing your own research proposal. Completing 100 hours of work-based learning in a setting of your choice will continue your professional development.

In your final year, you will learn about contemporary approaches, theories, and practices in promoting mental health and wellbeing. You will continue your professional development, completing 80 hours of work-based learning, developing a full CV, and enhancing your employability skills in readiness for graduate life. You will also complete your own research project, becoming an expert in an area of interest to you.

Teaching & Assessment
You will be taught using a variety of active learning methods, including discussions, case studies, lectures, quizzes, and forums
Assessments on this programme are varied, allowing you to develop and showcase a range of skills. They include portfolios, talks, essays, reflective writing, presentations, simulations and an exam.
For each 20 credit module you will receive 36 active learning and teaching hours during year one (level four), and 30 hours at year two (level five) and 24 at level 6. You will also be expected to complete independent study including key reading
If students complete a foundation year (Year 0/level three) they will receive 40 hours active learning and teaching hours per 20 credit module.
