OVERVIEW
Build a career in the design, engineering and manufacturing industries with UWS’s MEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering. You’ll develop knowledge of scientific and engineering principles and hone your practical skills through use of our industry-standard equipment and software for computer aided engineering design, manufacture, analysis and failure investigations. Increased emphasis is placed on sustainable engineering – establishing you as an attractive candidate to

Modules
Year 1
Engineering mechanics, materials and mathematics provide a foundation to engineering design. Professional and industrial studies are introduced alongside skills development in communications and IT technology.
Year 2
Topics include strength of materials, thermofluid mechanics, materials and manufacturing technology. The formal engineering design process and how it relates to engineering practice is introduced; as well as computer-aided technology, IT-related techniques and engineering management.
Year 3
Skills in design and applied mechanics are enhanced. Thermodynamics, rapid prototyping and experimental testing techniques; intelligent systems and control technologies; and advanced computer-based analysis and simulation techniques are introduced, along with project management skills.
Year 4
Applied mechanics in areas including plasticity, fracture and vibrations, build on previous studies. Composite structures and renewable energy systems and sustainability are introduced. Computer-aided engineering design is explored further and computational fluid dynamics introduced. You will undertake a major individual project.
Year 5
The fifth / MEng (Hons) year builds on the first four years and adds advanced fluid mechanics and CFD and advanced heat transfer topics as well as applied finite element analysis and structural integrity modules. You will also undertake a major group project.

International applicants
ACADEMIC TECHNOOGY APPROVAL SCHEME (ATAS) CERTIFICATE
Many international applicants (see exempt nationalites*) are advised that they will need to obtain an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate before they can be considered for an unconditional offer of study on this undergraduate integrated masters course. Entry Clearance Officers (ECO) will ask to see your ATAS certificate as part of your visa application process. UK immigration law does not allow universities to permit international students to study for an ATAS applicable course until the student has supplied the university with all the relevant ATAS certificate details for their application.
*EXEMPT NATIONALITIES Students who are nationals of EU countries, the European Economic Area (EEA), Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland or the United States of America do not need an ATAS certificate to study on ths course.

TUITION FEE INFORMATION - SCOTTISH STUDENTS:
Eligible Scottish domiciled students can usually apply to have their tuition fees paid for them each year of their studies by the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS). If you're not sure about your eligibility, you should contact SAAS. You need to apply to SAAS each year of study to have your tuition fees paid directly to UWS.
TUITION FEE INFORMATION - UK, IRISH & GIBRALTARIAN STUDENTS:
Eligible students who are domiciled in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland as well as from the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar or the Republic of Ireland will qualify for tuition fees of £9,250 per academic session of study to a maximum of three years if you are studying on a four year bachelor degree course (eg. BAcc (Hons) / BA (Hons) / BEng (Hons) / BSc (Hons)). So, if your degree is four years' duration, you will only be charged tuition fees for three years. Similarly, if you are studying a five year integrated master's degree course (eg. MEng (Hons)) the you will only be charged tuition fees for four years.

These tuition fees apply to all non-EU, EEA, and all other EU students (excluding those from Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar, whose fee level is as per UK (non-Scottish) students - see section above for more details).
