Course summary

The aim of this 3 year programme is to provide students with the key principles and concepts of golf management, both internationally and nationally. Graduates will be able to meet the expectations of employers as competent golf managers who can apply scientific and management principles to their practice whilst being able to predict the outcomes of theory actions and generate policy and management initiatives.

Students will learn the necessary skills and qualifications which will allow them to gain purposeful employment within the golf industry, whilst allowing them to continue their practical golf development and further their playing career.

Year 2: TGFD07 Research Project in Professional Golf (20 Credits), TGFD04 Sports Sponsorship (20 Credits), E-Business & Marketing (20 Credits), Contemporary International Business Issues (20 Credit), International Golf Tourism & Golf Event Management (20 Credit), Business Project Management (20 Credit).

Assessment method

  • Corporate Presentation

An opportunity for students to present in a real world, corporate scenario, encouraging effective presentation skills and business demeanour

  • Business Project

A written proposal setting out how the body (student) making it intends to organise itself to satisfy the demands of its clients and thereby develop its business.

  • Essay

A sustained response to an essay question or title (anything from 1500 to 5000 words may be required): an exploration of the issues arising from the question or title, in terms of a critical analysis and interpretation of the text or texts under consideration.

  • Event Planning

A group task to show cooperative workings and underpinning theories of event planning and management.

  • Infographic

Infographic are used to visual present information using charts, graphs or other images, with minimal text, with the intent of creating and easily understood overview of often complex subject areas.

  • Online test

Undertaking an online test involving a task or series of tasks using a computer, this may have time-constraints and may employ adaptive technologies.

  • Portfolio / Portfolio and reflection

A collection of assessments covering the learning outcomes of a module, which usually takes several different forms such as essays, reports, presentations, task sheets and digital media. A compilation of weekly tasks, brief laboratory reports, coaching plans and evaluations as evidence of students’ achievement. Refelction can be included as part of the Portfolio.

  • Practical

Examination of personal performance. For example; teaching, coaching, running events, leading lab sessions.

  • Presentation/Group Presentation

Formally assessed presentations on either a specific theoretical topic or practical work in progress are given in seminars/workshops by individuals or small groups of students.

  • Reflection Presentation

A short presentation reflecting on the student’s performance in a previous assignment.  The presentation should show reflection on the experience learned.

  • Research Proposal

A written proposal to identify a specific research investigation, including a justification for the investigation and methodology.

  • Research Project

A project equating to 3500 words demonstrating a student’s ability to use research to plan, execute, collect data and analyse data effectively

  • Report

A written response structured in an agreed format, based on individual research of a selected topic. This may include practical research. A structured written account of a laboratory practical with analysis and discussion of results.

  • Video

A video presentation which demonstrates knowledge and understanding of a topic.

  • Work Experience Participation

Participation in work experience that relates directly to the field of study.
