Course summary

This course equips you with cutting-edge skills and a qualification acknowledged by the Engineering Council, paving the way for a fulfilling technical career as an Engineering Technician.

This Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering is designed to develop the technical knowledge and practical skills required for supervisory and leadership roles in the engineering sector. It is suitable for people with varied achievement profiles, such as those with significant work experience in all forms of engineering, looking to advance their careers. The programme provides a solid foundation in key engineering principles while enhancing problem-solving and team coordination abilities.

Key Areas of Study:

Mathematics for Engineers: Build confidence in applying mathematical methods to real-world engineering problems, including calculations related to forces, materials, and electrical systems.

Engineering Science: Understand the fundamental scientific principles behind mechanical and electrical systems, materials behaviour, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.

Engineering Design: Learn to interpret technical drawings, contribute to the design process, and support innovation through structured problem-solving and design thinking.

Teamwork and Communication in Engineering: Develop effective collaboration skills essential for working within multidisciplinary teams, managing tasks, and ensuring clear communication across departments.

To further develop your understanding of real-world industry practices, you will engage with real-life scenarios, case studies, experiments, and problem-solving activities directly related to your specialist subject and the wider engineering industry.

This programme is closely aligned with current industry needs and is ideal for those who wish to move into more technical or managerial roles. The HNC provides practical knowledge that can be immediately applied on-site, helping you better support your team, liaise with engineers and project managers, and contribute to the success of engineering projects.
