Course summary

This programme has been developed as a progression to honours to make it possible for foundation degree graduates (and others where appropriate), to progress to achieve an honours degree in the interdisciplinary art and design area. This final year is unique to the South West and provides an exciting and vibrant Level 6 qualification with a continued emphasis on you, the learner and the development of your professional identity within the creative industries.

You will develop a focused innovative practice combining particular interdisciplinary art and design interests. In particular you will have the staff expertise and practical up to date facilities to enable you to explore, Print Making, Ceramics, Painting, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Mould Making & Fine Art Textiles. This is supported by an advanced skills and knowledge set reflecting your particular direction through the programme. You will be expected to develop an independent, autonomous practice, synthesise prior learning and present a public realisation of your work. The programme aims to facilitate within graduates an enthusiasm, curiosity and flexibility to equip you for a future in developing challenging art and design projects, whilst also operating across a range of arts careers and creative practices.

The programme aims to be a unique blend of traditional, contemporary and innovative approaches to learning. The curriculum is enquiry driven to provide you with a centred active education. Its design deliberately discourages the reductive question ‘What do I need to do to pass this module?’ by providing a framework which begs the question ‘Can I do this?’ and developing an enquiring attitude. This is consistent with the need for workers in the creative industries to be able to apply in-depth subject knowledge to a variety of circumstances.
