Course summary

Immerse yourself in the engaging world of sport and exercise on this hands-on and wide-ranging degree. This Sport and Exercise degree prepares you for a rapidly evolving career.

Your studies are wide-ranging, from scientific support, coaching and service provision to duty of care and community sports development. You'll have practical sessions in our bespoke physiology and biomechanics laboratories. Plus you'll explore areas like social policy with sports coaching and development.

Built-in work placements

Built-in work placements give you industry experience, helping you learn how to apply your knowledge to real-life situations. Along the way you can work towards National Governing Body and/or industry qualifications.

This is a flexible course, blending academic study alongside relevant industry experience, helping you to tailor your degree as your interests develop. Whatever you choose to do career-wise, your studies are designed to dovetail neatly into your future employment plans.

Two-year foundation in Sport and Exercise

This course is flexible, and part of a portfolio of five courses covering different specialisms in sport.

For the first two years, everyone takes Sport and Exercise as a foundation. Then you specialise in years three and four.

Modules

Assessment method

The course combines a variety of lectures, small group work, and practical activities. You also undertake work placements to reinforce the link between theory and practice. You will be encouraged to evaluate information and challenge commonly held ideas about sport and exercise, as well as being invited to research your own areas of interest and expertise. Assessment uses a combination of examination and course work to help you develop a variety of intellectual and practical skills such as being able to put forward a position based on evidence, or being able to discuss and promote ideas within a group.
