This online-delivered course provides post further education learners and existing software developers, electronics engineers and electronic media developers with the fundamental skills to work in industries that combine software, web, mobile and virtual reality skills to develop new and innovative interactive solutions for a wide range of industries and applications. Key things you will learn within the course are:

• The development of browser and server-based software solutions that are delivered through the internet.
• The production of apps that function on mobile devices such as mobile phones, smart watches and tablets.
• The design and creation of responsive virtual reality worlds that can accessed through mobile and specialist VR hardware.

Creative problem solving is core: through the course of study learners will develop problem solving skills that allow them to meet the needs of clients and organisations that require software to be developed to meet specific requirements.

Client focused development: to produce interesting and engaging mobile, VR and AR experiences learners will throughout the course develop the ability to be innovative and imaginative in designing software solutions that are built around the client.

Learning by doing: learners will work individually and in groups to develop software products and experiment in practical labs to extend their learning beyond the theoretical elements of the subject.

Security is key: within the course there is a strong focus on the requirements to create systems that are safe to use in a VR environment and work securely across networks and the internet creating systems that protect user data during transmission and storage and be compliant with current legislation.

Industry relevant: Work undertaken students will be carefully aligned with the needs of industry through the college's Institute of Technology and has been informed by current industry trends and methods of operation.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

When we review an application, we take into consideration the context in which applicants have achieved their academic qualifications. If candidates meet certain eligibility criteria, we may make an offer which is lower than our typical entry requirements. This is called a contextual offer. Where contextual offers are used, they are used in situations where they minimise barriers to entry for applicants and address inequalities, while maintaining standards.
