Course summary

Turn a computer science degree into a year of real industry experience. This BCS-accredited BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Sandwich Placement builds the same core foundations in programming, AI and software engineering as our standard degree, then adds a compulsory, credit-bearing year in industry: a minimum 48-week Industrial Placement, built into your course structure rather than something you arrange separately.

Recent Discover Uni data shows Computer Science graduates from Wolverhampton earning around £25,000, 15 months after finishing, with roughly 80% in work or further study. Course content is shaped by our Industry Advisory Board, including Amazon, IBM, the Post Office, MorServ and Ontic, so your placement experience lines up with what employers are actually hiring for. You'll be taught by academic staff who are themselves Fellows and Members of the British Computer Society (BCS), in specialist computing, networking, AI and cybersecurity labs on our City Campus.

In Years 1 and 2, you'll build core programming and computing foundations, including object-oriented design, internet software architecture and computational mathematics, alongside full-stack development and team-based software projects. You'll also begin specialising, choosing from options including cloud systems, artificial intelligence, computer networking, data mining and games development.

In Year 3, you'll complete your Industrial Placement: a minimum 48-week placement in an industrial or commercial role, supported by our dedicated professional placements team to help you secure the right opportunity. Academic staff visit you during your placement and stay in contact throughout, so you're never left without support.

In your final year, you'll return to deepen your specialism further, with options including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Advanced Full Stack Development and Software Engineering, and complete an individual project informed directly by the year you've just spent in industry.

Graduates go on to roles including Software Developer/Engineer, Data Analyst/Data Scientist, Cloud/DEv Opp Engineer, AI/Machine Learning Engineer, Systems Analyst, Cloud/DevOps Engineer and Games Developer.
