Course summary

Chemistry shapes everything around us, from the medicines we rely on, to the materials that power modern technology. As global challenges grow more complex, we need chemists who can think deeper, work smarter and innovate responsibly. Our MChem (Hons) Chemistry degree gives you the advanced scientific training to understand these challenges and develop the solutions that will drive the future of chemical sciences.

This integrated four‑year master’s combines rigorous theoretical study with extensive hands‑on laboratory experience, giving you a level of scientific depth that goes beyond a standard undergraduate degree. You’ll build expertise across inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry, while exploring specialist areas such as synthetic chemistry, catalysis, materials chemistry and green chemistry.

The curriculum is shaped around industry needs, developing the practical, analytical and problem‑solving skills employers demand. You can also broaden your experience through an optional year‑long industry placement or study abroad opportunity, gaining valuable professional insight and a global perspective that set you apart in a competitive field.
