shape the future of the digital world
As a Computer Scientist, you can make a real impact on our world by developing solutions to global challenges such as:
fighting cyber threats
improving accessibility with AI and machine learning
using data to tackle climate change
This is a hands-on course that blends deep theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. You'll study a broad Computer Science curriculum in your first two years. You’ll learn about creative problem-solving, program design and implementation.
In your final year, you can specialise in a particular area of Computer Science or build your own tailored degree. Choose from subject areas taught by experts in:
artificial intelligence
security and resilience
software engineering
bioinformatics
game engineering
To customise your degree further, you'll have the option to take part in a paid industry placement or study abroad year.
You'll be based in the Urban Sciences Building on our Newcastle Helix campus. You’ll have access to industry-leading facilities, and study alongside academic experts at the forefront of their field.
During your degree, you'll apply your knowledge through team and individual projects. You'll choose from an industry challenge from an employer or develop your own project that solves a real-world problem, such as gender inequality or climate change. You'll define your approach, select the best software, and collaborate to create an innovative solution.
