Learn to apply economic theories and develop enhanced data science skills. On this MSc you’ll gain a practical skillset that is in demand in today’s job market.
You'll build a comprehensive knowledge of Economics with a strong grounding in its applications using computing and programming skills. This will enable you to analyse large and complex data sets to solve complex problems. These skills are essential in analysing economic policy and financial markets, as well as utilising data for informed decision-making.
On this course you will:
study machine learning techniques, text analysis, neural networks and econometric methods
use programming languages to address economic problems
work with real-world scenarios, take part in collaborative projects and gain exposure to industry practices
gain advanced skills in data communication, visualisation and presentation.
Your applied dissertation will give you the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice to tackle complex problems with real-world implications.
You'll learn from experts in applied quantitative research. Our faculty are working to solve real-world problems, and many work with our research centres, including the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy (CITP) and the UK Trade Policy Observatory (UKTPO).
We have strong industry collaborations and you can join guest lectures. These are valuable networking opportunities and could enhance your career development. We also teach you about ethical considerations to build your sense of social responsibility for your future career.
You'll graduate ready to assess individuals’ economic behaviour and analyse policy-relevant economic problems. This course will open up a range of career options, including in economic policy analysis, financial markets, or roles utilising data for informed decision-making.
