Ever wondered why global politics works the way it does today? International relations scholars examine how our world functions now, while historians unravel the past to illuminate the present. Together, these complementary disciplines offer you the most complete understanding of global politics across time.

Our BA International Relations and Modern History with a Year Abroad is an exciting journey that takes you from the origins of our modern global system to today's breaking headlines. You'll develop skills that employers value while exploring questions that truly matter. On this version of the course, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to spend your third year studying at one of our partner institutions across the globe.

At UEA, you'll dive into current global issues like what causes wars to break out and why economic crises spread across borders. Simultaneously, you'll develop the historical perspective needed to truly understand these challenges—seeing how today's system of separate nations evolved over more than three centuries. Throughout your BA International Relations and Modern History with a Year Abroad degree, you'll receive personalised support from your academic adviser and a dedicated career specialist who'll help you identify, and access opportunities aligned with your passions and goals.

You'll discover how today's pressing challenges—from climate change cooperation to growing competition between world powers and conflicts from Europe to the Indo-Pacific—all have deep historical roots that explain why they're so difficult to solve.

    Hi, I'm Alexandra and I'm a 2nd year Drama and Creative Writing undergraduate student at UEA. I'm Spanish/Bolivian but have lived most of my life in Bolivia. As someone with a passion for stage and screen, I chose the Drama and Creative Writing course at UEA to develop and acquire more skills that would allow me to succeed in my career path. I am particularly passionate about scriptwriting, acting and filmmaking, so in the future, I hope I can dedicate myself to all of them. I was previously studying graphic design in Bolivia, but I decided to apply to UEA to pursue my goals; however, I still dedicate some time to it because I love it.
