This programme offers an opportunity to explore the full range of theories and practice within Translation Studies at a graduate level. Its combined focus on translation and adaptation – unique within the UK – widens the scope of Translation Studies to address movement not only between languages but also between different media. It is also thoroughly global, both in the wide range of languages offered at QMUL and in the programme’s approach to translation theory, which draws on scholarly traditions of the Global South.
Why study Translation and Adaptation?
The only Translation and Adaptation MA in the UK: all comparable programmes focus solely on translation.
Our faculty have linguistic and translational expertise in a huge range of world languages, from multiple European languages to Arabic, Chinese, and several South Asian languages.
Our faculty include prizewinning translators.
A truly global degree: we engage with translation theory and criticism from the Global South, rather than focusing on scholarship produced in Europe and America.
Flexible programme, allowing students to choose between more theoretical and more skills-based pathways in both translation and adaptation.

• Translation Studies I: Problems, Theories, Methods
• Translation Studies II: Translation, Empire, and Law
