This one-year Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering develops advanced knowledge and specialist skills required for higher-level roles in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
Building on Level 4 study, the course focuses on advanced mechanical principles, thermofluids and modern manufacturing systems, with an emphasis on industry application.
Throughout the course, you will apply your learning through practical activities and project-based work, developing problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills. This ensures you are well prepared for progression to higher-level study or employment within the engineering sector.
On completion, you can progress to a top-up degree or move into higher-level engineering roles.

The course also introduces virtual engineering and lean manufacturing, reflecting modern industry practices and technologies.
Further mathematics and professional engineering management will develop your analytical and leadership skills.
Through applied projects and practical work, you will gain the confidence and expertise needed for higher-level engineering roles or further study.
You will undertake a range of both written and practical assignments, presentations and in-class controlled assessments.
