Become a visual artist who thinks, concepts, and creates for print, screen, and show.

There’s so much more to make-up and hair than the transformation. The best artists understand how identity, culture, and storytelling influence style, trends, and outcomes. On this course, you’ll learn it all – honing technical precision, finding your signature style, and developing the kind of conceptual thinking that will set you and your work apart.

These are skills that come through extensive studio time, where every single session of this course is taught. Masterclasses, seminars, workshops, briefings – they all happen where you create your work, so you can always link theory and practice. Master the art and the application in fully-equipped beauty studios that reflect real industry environments.

Fashion editorial, film, TV, theatre, beauty brands, private clients – you'll develop skills across all of them. You'll learn how designing for print differs from screen, how your artistry adapts to each context, and how to build a creative career with the range to take you anywhere.

We consider the strength of our applicants’ portfolios as well as their grades and we therefore may make offers which are lower than our standard entry criteria of 112 tariff points. This may be to students who have faced difficulties that have affected their performance and who were expected to achieve higher results - in these cases, a strong portfolio is especially important.

We regularly admit students with a tariff much higher than our standard 112 requirement, and applicants who show potential but aren’t quite at the stage to be able to succeed on the course are offered a 4 year degree with an integrated foundation year which has a standard entry requirement of 32 tariff points.

Scottish Higher
