Course summary
This Classical Studies with English BA is an interdepartmental course that will allow you to develop an in-depth knowledge of the Classics while also studying English literature. With no required modules, you’ll be empowered to select a syllabus that best suits your interests.
You can expect to build skills and experience in working with Latin and Ancient Greek literature in translation (or optionally in their original form), ancient philosophy, history, art, and archaeology. Your English studies will enable you to see echoes of the ancient world as they are picked up, reinvented, and transformed over the centuries to the modern day.
You’ll join the best university in the UK for research excellence in Classics (REF 2021) and learn from one of the oldest English departments in the country. This offers a range of exciting opportunities that include handling sessions in London museums, like the British Museum and Shakespeare’s Globe, and unique module coverage from the Bronze Age to modern Greece.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 33 credits M: 12 credits P: 0 credits
The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be 60 credits in total.
Access to English Literature/Arts/Humanities (or similar subject). Level 3 study must focus on English Literature.
Scottish Higher - ABB
Must be a combination of three Scottish Highers and two Scottish Advanced Highers. We do not count the Higher and Advanced Higher in the same subject.
Scottish Advanced Higher - AB
Must include grade A in Advanced Higher English Literature/English Language & Literature.
Must be combined with three Scottish Highers. We do not count the Higher and Advanced Higher in the same subject.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 35 points
35 points overall or an aggregate score of 17 from three Higher Levels. Must include grade 6 in Higher Level English Literature or English Language and Literature.
Note: The total point score of 35 includes TOK/EE.
Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H1, H2, H2, H2, H2, H2
Must include English Literature or combine English Language and Literature.
Leaving Certificate - Ordinary Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - Not accepted
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, M2
Must include Literature in English at grade D3.
Please note that Global Perspectives is not accepted by King’s as one of your Pre-U Principal subjects. Combinations of Pre-U principal subjects and other qualifications (such as A-levels) will be considered.
T Level - Not accepted
Required subjects: English Literature, or combined English Language and Literature
Preferred subjects: English Literature and another arts subject.
