How do people learn, and how can education support every individual to thrive? On this degree, you will explore the connection between education and psychology, combining insight into human behaviour with an understanding of how learning systems are shaped.


This is a programme that brings together research-led teaching from a Russell Group university with accreditation from the British Psychological Society. Completing this BPS-accredited programme will make it possible for you to pursue further study or training in the full range of career options in psychology.

Along with this, the University of Southampton is ranked in the top 5 in the UK for Education and top 10 for Psychology (Complete University Guide 2026 and Guardian University Guide 2026). 
 
You will develop scientific research skills that allow you to question and critique educational policy, working alongside academics whose research shapes real-world practice.


Through your studies, you will explore topics such as inclusion, digital literacy, developmental psychology, and the psychological foundations of learning, considering both UK and global perspectives. You will be encouraged to bring your own viewpoint, helping you engage with complex and evolving challenges in education. 
 
By the time you graduate, you will be prepared for a range of careers across education, psychology and beyond, or for further study.

We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject).

Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4"
