In December 2024, the University of Bolton was granted permission by the Office for Students (OfS) to change its name to the University of Greater Manchester with immediate effect. While we work to update our systems, you may see both names used in the information we provide.
Our online Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care (DProf) is designed to enable healthcare professionals to make a significant impact in the field of health and social care. This practice-focused award is relevant for doctors, nurses, medical and paramedical practitioners, allied health professionals, midwives, health and social care managers and health care educators.
The University of Greater Manchester’s online Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care is designed to support you in producing an original independent contribution to knowledge and/or practice that has a significant impact in the field of health and social care.
At the outset, we'll introduce you to doctoral studies and the principles of research design in health and social care. You'll be supported to contextualise your enquiries and explore research methodology, methods and analysis. Our experienced healthcare professionals will guide you as you conduct your fieldwork project and support you as you plan and write your doctoral thesis.
In order to complete the programme, you'll need to submit a 60,000-word thesis and successfully pass the thesis examination and viva voce examination.
Our focus is on helping you to complete and defend your thesis successfully and supporting you as you grow into an independent, ethical and innovative researcher.
