Arts and Humanities (English Literature) (R14-L)

This degree gives you the freedom to study a range of subject areas in the arts and humanities while developing a specialism in English literature, exploring a range of texts across different periods and places. You can combine this with a second specialism or choose to develop broader interests in art history, classical studies, creative writing, English language, history, modern languages, music, philosophy and religious studies. You'll also discover how knowledge is created and shared in the arts and humanities, stretch your imagination and develop your own creative and critical responses whilst being part of a vibrant student community.

Course Modules

This arts and humanities degree has three stages, each comprising 120 credits.

In Stage 1, you’ll encounter a variety of different times and places and engage with some fascinating people, artworks, ideas, and stories. This broad foundation will help you develop the skills and confident, open approach you need to tackle more specialist modules at Stages 2 and 3.

In Stage 2, you can explore literature’s engagement with identity, environment, politics, and imagination across diverse genres and periods or undertake a module that considers the ways in which writers of fiction have put together their stories. You can study both modules or combine one English literature module with another from a wide choice of arts and humanities modules.

In Stage 3, you’ll choose between studying a diverse selection of great literature from 1570 to 1818 or from 1800 to the present. You can study both modules or combine one English literature module with another from a wide choice of arts and humanities modules.
