Bangor University (Prifysgol Bangor)

Course summary

During this Law with Psychology degree you can gain expertise in core legal subjects whilst studying key concepts in psychology to gain a deeper understanding of the human mind and human behaviour.

Studying psychology alongside the legal topics required for a qualifying law degree gives you a unique perspective of juvenile, civil and criminal justice systems. Understanding of the criminal personality could inform crime prevention and punishment, while behavioural psychology can shed insight on common social issues that lead to law-breaking.

As well as being a ‘stepping stone’ to a future career as a solicitor or barrister, this degree develops practical competencies valued by employers outside the legal profession: research and diagnostic skills, an analytical mind, ability to listen, form sound arguments, read and quickly process complex information.

You will graduate with a Law degree which meets the academic requirements for qualification as a barrister (Bar Standards Board compliant), but also provides essential knowledge for students aspiring to be solicitors. Choose to study vocational subjects tested in the Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations (SQE) providing you with a gateway to professional training to become a solicitor.

‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch.

If you don’t have the required qualifications for this degree-level course or are looking to re-enter education after time away from study, then a Foundation Year Programme might be the right choice for you. Please see Law (with Foundation Year) M10F.
