You’ll explore four materials (wood, metal, ceramics and polymers), learning design and making techniques through themed projects. You’ll also develop professional and creative skills, including research, visual communication and studio techniques.

Year 2
You’ll specialise in chosen materials and processes, developing your individual practice through structured, live and research-led projects. Studio practice is supported by modules in professional practice and historical and critical studies.

Optional placement year
You can gain valuable industry experience and earn money on an optional placement year, returning to your final year with confidence, hands-on experience and valuable contacts.

Final year
You’ll create a major independent body of work in 3D design and craft, supported by research, a professional practice portfolio and an extended essay, developing your skills in independent learning and project management.

A level - BCC - BBB

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM - MMM

Access to HE Diploma - M: 30 credits P: 15 credits

Pass Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at Level 3 of which 30 credits must be at Merit or above. Art and Design courses are preferred.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 26 points

Must include three subjects at Higher Level.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H3, H3, H3, H3, H3

or equivalent combination of grades.

The fees listed in the table above are for full-time UK undergraduate students in academic year 2025-26. You will pay further fees in each year of your course. Fees may increase each year. UK undergraduate and certain postgraduate fees are regulated by the UK government. The annual fee increase will not exceed the UK government's maximum regulated tuition fee limit set for the relevant academic year. Many of our courses include the option of a salaried placement year. Tuition fees for a placement year are charged at a lower rate of £1850.
