Our Gateway to Medicine six-year course is aimed at Wales-domiciled students who meet widening participation criteria, where an extra year of medical education supports the transition and integration into university and medical school, supporting future success.
The 'Gateway to Medicine year' (year 1) is designed to prepare students for the BMBS Medicine course. Following successful completion of the 'Gateway Year' students will progress onto the BMBS Medicine programme for years 2-6.
The curriculum focuses on community medicine through a range of clinical placements in varied environments including:
-
A full year at a GP Surgery
-
Experience in large teaching hospitals
-
Mountain medicine
-
Rural environments
We will train you to be an excellent doctor for Wales and beyond by providing high quality teaching, and an inspiring learning experience based around increased clinical contact and award-winning clinical teaching at the University Health Board. You will graduate as a skilled clinician who understands people and the environment in which we live.
Working in close collaboration with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Primary Care providers across North Wales, our new programme maximises the opportunities from our diverse clinical settings, rural and urban. The Welsh language and cultural context of North Wales Communities have been embraced and considered to help to prepare you for your future medical practice in the surround area and beyond.
Please note: This course has strict eligibility criteria. Applicant must be Wales-domiciled and meet widening participation criteria. Please see the Bangor University website or contact us for more information.
Please carefully check the entry requirements. Applicants with predicted/achieved A-level grades of AAB or above, and/or predicted/achieved grade A or higher in two science subjects are not eligible for this course and should instead visit our Medicine (A100) course.
