Course summary

Your journey to becoming a doctor starts here. Step into real clinical settings, learn from every patient, and shape the care you provide. Build the skills, knowledge, and values to make a real difference in healthcare.

If you’re passionate about helping people and ready for a career that makes a real difference, our MBChB Medicine degree will give you everything you need to become a confident, compassionate doctor.

From the start you’ll learn in real clinical environments, meeting patients, working with doctors, and developing the practical skills that bring medicine to life. Your academic learning will be connected to what you see in hospitals and General Practices so you’ll always understand why what you’re studying matters.

You’ll explore how the human body works, what happens in disease, and how to diagnose and treat patients. Along the way, you’ll build strong communication skills, learn how to work effectively in a healthcare team, and gain a deep understanding of the ethical and professional responsibilities that come with being a doctor.

Throughout the course, you’ll experience a wide range of specialties from emergency care and surgery to paediatric and mental health helping you discover the areas of medicine that inspire you most. You’ll also have the chance to get involved in research or take an intercalated year to dive deeper into a subject you’re passionate about.

By the time you graduate, you’ll have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to step into your foundation training and start making a real impact on patients’ lives.

We are developing our MBChB Medicine programme to enhance the experience of our students and make sure our graduates continue to be well prepared for the changing world of healthcare.

Our plans include offering greater choice in student-selected components, a more balanced academic year aligned with University semesters and holiday periods, a strengthened surgical care experience, and improved integration between primary and secondary care.

As these developments progress, some of the details on this page may change. We will share more information on our website, at open days, and in communications to applicants and offer-holders.
