About the course

In today’s world, we face an increasing number of complex social and business challenges. Specialists who can bridge the gap between strategic thinking and technological expertise are in demand.

On this course, you’ll learn to design, evaluate and apply IT systems within business environments.

By studying at Sussex, you will:

  • explore theories relating to IT management as an innovative resource

  • analyse current IT system trends, methodologies and interfaces

  • communicate concepts, designs and evaluation within a technical environment

  • learn from experts dedicated to solving real-world problems

  • benefit from our links to industry, research and policymaking

Throughout your studies, you’ll draw from our interdisciplinary culture to explore a range of human, organisational and strategic factors.

You’ll have the opportunity to specialise in one of two routes designed to suit your existing expertise. One route is for students with a background in management or information systems. The other is for those with a background in computer science, programming or software engineering.

Your studies will culminate in an individual research project on an area of your choice, such as:

  • IT applications in business contexts

  • IT strategy in particular regions, industries or sectors

  • complex IT project and system management

  • user perspectives and IT systems design

  • IT innovation for business models

Our graduates go on to establish careers in diverse organisations. In the past, these have ranged from multinational tech giants, financial institutions and healthcare research organisations to government agencies, SMEs and innovation startups.
