Course summary
Diagnostic Radiographers produce and interpret images of the human body. Diagnostic Imaging is central to health care and is critical in the diagnosis and treatment of trauma and disease. GCU's Diagnostic Imaging qualification is recognised worldwide and allows you to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Society and College of Radiographers. Most of Scotland's Diagnostic Radiographers graduate from GCU, equipped with the knowledge, competencies and attributes needed to practice in the modern health and social care services. You will have access to a dedicated x-ray suite that simulates practice.
An elective placement at the end of Year 3 provides the opportunity to study abroad.
Your career
The NHS employs 90% of Diagnostic Radiographers. There are opportunities to gain employment within the acute sector, community sector, national screening programmes and private practice. Career opportunities allow for the development to advanced and consultant practitioner roles.
Assessment method
The purpose of assessment is for learning, in conjunction with testing the student’s ability to demonstrate competence. A variety of summative and formative methods are employed including, coursework, simulated case studies, critical review, reflective reports, written and electronic exams, presentations, posters, clicker quizzes and the final year Honours project.
Additionally, we compile objective structured clinical / radiographic exams utilising digital radiographic images. Students have professional performance assessments which evaluate practical skills within the clinical environment.
Flexible online e-tutorials and exams allow students to choose when and where to undertake these components.

Standard Qualification requirements
A level - BCC
to include two sciences from Maths, Physics, Psychology, Biology and Chemistry or Double/Single Life and Health Sciences, Nutrition and Food Science, Health and Social Care, Environmental Science.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DMM
BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Science) or Applied Science.
Access to HE Diploma
Access to HE Diplomas in a relevant subject (Science based) are considered.
Scottish Higher - BBBC
to include two sciences from Biology/Human Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Application of Maths, Physics to Environmental Science.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 26 points
to include two sciences at HL 4.
Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H2, H3, H3, H3
to include two sciences from Biology, Chemistry, Health and Food Technology, Physics to Maths.
Scottish HNC - Pass
Level 1: HNC relevant science subject (such as Applied Sciences) with Graded Unit B
Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) - Pass
Accepted as equivalent to one Higher at grade B as part of the overall grade profile of Highers required for entry. Any essential subjects at Higher should still be achieved in addition to the Foundation Apprenticeship.
T Level - M

SWAP Access to Radiography Glasgow Kelvin college at BBB. Other SWAP Access courses in Science subjects are also considered.
