Filmmaking (Taught)

MA Filmmaking explores contemporary storytelling across a range of media and platforms, with a focus on short form filmmaking, including narrative, documentary and artistic practices. You will develop your voice and identity as a filmmaker communicating your ideas through a range of creative, conceptual and technological approaches. Industry-focussed and experimental production techniques will be framed by sustainable practice and evolving modes of storytelling to help shape your filmmaking future.

The School of Digital Arts (SODA) fosters professional connections within the local and global creative industries, putting you at the forefront of the shifting media landscape. Equipped with the latest emerging technologies you'll gain industry-standard skills and collaborate with a vibrant community of creatives, supported by a staff team that encompasses international research and embedded industry professionals within the wider creative media, arts and digital tech industries.

• Located in Manchester, this course positions filmmakers within one of the UK's key centres for screen industries. The city is home to a vibrant digital production landscape, featuring everything from innovative start-ups to established companies like the BBC and ITV, all situated in nearby Salford’s Media City.

In the past our students have collaborated with HOME, The Whitworth Art Gallery, Factory International and the Imperial War Museum.
