Course summary

Why Crime and Criminal Investigation (with placement)?
Are you interested in a career in preventing and detecting crime? Do you want to develop the skills needed to carry out effective investigations, support victims and solve crime within law enforcement, public organisations, or private business?

Our Crime and Criminal Investigation degree combines theory, policy, and practice across policing, criminology, and criminal justice. You’ll focus on the investigative process, gaining a strong understanding of the Criminal Justice System and the role of investigators, while exploring current challenges in the field.

You’ll learn from experienced academics with backgrounds in policing, covering areas such as identifying and securing evidence, interviewing techniques, victim support, and their relevance to policing and investigation work.

Throughout the course, you’ll work on case studies and hands-on practical scenarios, exploring key issues from historical, empirical, and theoretical perspectives.

By the end of the programme, with our support, you’ll be a confident graduate with the knowledge and investigative mindset for a career in policing or investigation.

Your fourth year would be a placement year - an opportunity to get ahead of the competition with a professional placement in industry
