Course overview
Dietitians have never been more important. They use their knowledge of food and science to support individuals, groups and populations to improve their health and well-being. Our integrated master’s degree is accredited by the British Dietetic Association and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. This means you can become a registered dietitian when you graduate.

We recognise the world of dietetics is changing. On this course, you’ll prepare to practice in modern healthcare settings and develop a strong foundation in nutrition, biochemistry, medicine, pathology and pharmacology.

You’ll learn from our expert team of registered dietitians, whose varied expertise directly informs your teaching. We have experience in primary care, gastroenterology, diabetes, paediatrics, intellectual disabilities, obesity, end of life care and more.

Practical experience is at the heart of the course. You’ll complete multiple practice placements, gaining hands-on experience in professional healthcare settings. Our teaching styles go beyond the traditional lectures and seminars, with opportunities including workshops, problem-based learning and practical classes. You’ll also develop your communication and practical skills in our purpose-built dietetics suite, featuring industry-standard equipment and designed to reflect real-world patient consultations.

Throughout the course, we’ll help you to develop key research skills. In your final year, you’ll complete your own research project in a specialist topic of interest. This project can directly contribute to improving patient care and will develop the skills you’ll need to deliver safe, effective and evidence-based practice after you graduate.

To include at least one of Biology or Chemistry plus a second science-based subject. The second science subject can be from Biology, Chemistry, Food Technology, Home Economics, Geography, IT, Maths, Physics, PE or Psychology.

A Level Chemistry is a requirement for applicants who have not achieved GCSE Chemistry, Combined Science or equivalent.

Citizenship Studies, Critical Thinking, General Studies, Science and Society and Leisure Studies are not accepted.

This qualification is accepted in combination with two Scottish Advanced Highers at grades AA in two science-based subjects. At least one of Biology or Chemistry is required plus a second science-based subject.

The second science subject can be from Biology, Chemistry, Food Technology, Home Economics, Geography, IT, Maths, Physics, PE or Psychology.

Access to HE Diploma
Distinction: 30 Merit: 15

This qualification will be considered where appropriate science content is being studied.

The requirement is 60 credits overall with 45 graded credits at Level 3. 30 credits must be achieved at Distinction, usually including 15 from Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry and another 15 in acceptable science subjects. The remaining 15 credits must be achieved at Merit.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE English Language or Literature and Mathematics grade C/4.

If A Level Chemistry (or equivalent) has not been taken, GCSE Chemistry grade B/5 or an integrated science subject such as Combined Science at grade BB/55 is required.

This qualification is only accepted in combination with five Scottish Highers at grades AABBB.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
DD

This qualification will be considered alongside A Level grade A. Applications are considered on an individual basis to ensure sufficient science has been studied.

The required A Levels for mixed BTEC and A Level grade profiles depends on the science content studied in the BTEC. Please contact us for further information.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Offer: 32

IB Diploma 32 points including HL6,4 or HL5,5 in at least 1 of HL Biology or Chemistry plus a second HL science from: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Computer Science, Psychology or Sports, Exercise and Health Science.

Alternatively, 665/764/755 in 3 Higher Level certificates, including at least 1 of Biology or Chemistry plus a second HL science from: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Computer Science, Psychology or Sports, Exercise and Health Science.

All applications must include a personal statement, which is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your interest in and suitability for the course. Your personal statement and reference are not formally scored as part of the recruitment process, although in some instances may be considered for decision-making purposes alongside your interview performance. Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the end of the calendar year they start their MNutr Nutrition and Dietetics degree. This is to meet the requirements for the clinical placements of the programme.
