This course has a global focus, and provides an in-depth understanding of the travel and tourism industry. The qualification forms the basis for careers in the hospitality, travel and tourism sector, particularly a management career. You may specialise in a range of areas, from visitor attractions and human resources, to hospitality and resort management or marketing.
ALIGNED WITH INDUSTRY
Tutors have extensive experience in industry, from hotel management, to working for leading airlines and tour companies, including Virgin, TUI and Easyjet.
INDUSTRY RELEVANT
A comprehensive guest speaker programme includes industry professionals, from hospitality consultants to local tourism entrepreneurs.
WORK EXPERIENCE
You will have the opportunity to take part in a work experience placement relating to your preferred area of industry – from shadowing managers in hotels, events, or travel agencies.
EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Students have previously benefited from a European trip - subsidised by the University Centre - to find out more about the latest travel and tourism industry trends at first-hand. In addition, trips are organised throughout each academic year to support with their studies.
The course provides the opportunity to study: The Travel and Tourism Sector; Finance and Funding in the Travel and Tourism Sector; Marketing in Travel and Tourism, Contemporary Issues in Travel and Tourism; Hopsitality Provision in the Travel and Tourism Sector; Tourist Destinations; Visitor Attraction Management and Travel and Tourism Entrepreneurs; The Developing Manager; Research Project; Sustainable Tourism Development, Legislation and Ethics in the Travel and Tourism Sector; Legislation and Ethics in the Travel and Tourism Sector; Special Interest Tourism; Resort Management; Work based Experience and Employability Skills.Pearson are currently reviewing this Higher National Qualification. Some modules titles may change.
You will be assessed through a variety of methods including case studies, projects, group work, assignments and reports.
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
