Course summary
The MA Creative Practice (Makeup Prosthetics Pathway) is a modular, practice-led postgraduate programme for graduates seeking to develop advanced specialist skills in makeup and prosthetics.
Throughout the course, you will enhance your practical expertise, refine your creative and professional identity, and strengthen your employability within film, television, theatre, and related creative industries. Industry-informed learning supports professional networking and career development.
The programme promotes critical reflection and research-informed practice, enabling you to define a clear creative direction. Graduates are well prepared for freelance work, employment within creative organisations, or progression to further academic study.
Applications are welcomed from graduates in Make-up, Special Effects, Film, Theatre, Art, and related creative disciplines. Strong technical skills are expected, alongside a willingness to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary environment.

Bachelor Degree2:2
BA/BSc (Hons) degree: 2:2 or better in a relevant subject.
International qualifications: International qualifications will be assessed against these criteria
IELTS: IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any component.
Mature applicants: University Centre Leeds welcomes applications from mature* applicants who may not have met the academic criteria, but who can demonstrate a wealth of experience in their chosen field. Candidates in this category and otherwise are likely to be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and may be asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application.
*21 years and over at the start of the course
RPL claims: The course structure actively supports claims for Recognition of Prior Certified Learning (RPCL) or Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL).

Additional fee information
To support with practical aspects of course, you will need a professional makeup and hair kit which uses the highest quality and professional standard products from industry reputable brands.
As we recognise this is a lot of money to pay upfront at the start of your course, we have made arrangements for you to be able to apply for this cost to be added to your tuition fee loan from Student Finance England, which would mean that your loan would be for £9,535 if studying full time and £4,767 if part time. If taking this option please note that your kit can only be issued to you once proof of your loan is received by the college.
