Course summary

About the course

FdSc Nursing Associate prepares you to support the delivery of high quality, evidence based care across community and hospital settings. Accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the programme equips you with the knowledge, skills and professional values required to work as part of the nursing team.

You will develop a strong understanding of how to support registered nurses in delivering safe and effective care for people of all ages, including those with mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural needs. The course reflects the evolving role of nursing within 21st century health services, including the shift towards integrated community care outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan.

On successful completion (subject to approval), you will be eligible to register with the NMC as a Registered Nursing Associate. The FdSc can also provide a stepping stone towards becoming a registered nurse.

What you’ll study

You will build knowledge in clinical practice, life sciences and health promotion, developing the skills needed to deliver care across diverse settings.

Modules may include:

• Fundamentals of Clinical Practice

• Foundations for Nursing Associates

• Fundamentals of Life Sciences

• Promoting Health and Preventing Ill-Health

Modules are subject to validation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

How you’ll learn

The course blends classroom teaching with hands on practice in modern Clinical Simulation Centres. Teaching includes lectures, seminars and practical sessions led by experienced clinicians and academics.

You will gain experience in a wide range of healthcare settings, including hospitals, community services and clients’ own homes. Learning focuses on evidence based practice, patient safety and building professional relationships with those you care for and work alongside.

How you’ll be assessed

You will complete a range of academic and practice based assessments, including reflective and case study based assignments, exams, presentations and safety and quality enhancement projects.

Your clinical skills will be assessed in simulation settings and evaluated during placements by both clinical and academic staff, ensuring you develop confidence and competence in professional practice.
