Clinical experience with compassion

Students at St Mary’s will learn the art of medicine through authentic service to patients in diverse, bespoke, and innovative NHS/community settings in London from Year 1, some examples are given below:

Year 1 & 2: Students will be based in Primary Care and a Music Therapy Charity.
Students will undertake social action projects with local community groups with meaningful outcomes.

Year 3, 4 & 5: Students will be trained in health coaching, tackling preventable illness, lifestyle factors and social isolation. Students will take on patient advocacy roles, working alongside a wider multi-disciplinary team to support patients and improve patient outcomes.

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAA

AAA including Chemistry or Biology and another science (to include one of Biology; Chemistry; Physics; or Maths or Further Maths or Statistics).  Although candidates may study a science as a third subject, we actively welcome applicants who study subjects outside of the sciences listed above, as we recognise the value of other disciplines in the understanding and practice of medicine. Human Biology, Sports Science, Further Mathematics and Statistics are only accepted as a 4th A level noting that 4th A levels do not form part of our scoring system. We welcome general studies and critical thinking as a fourth A2, but they do not typically form part of our offer.   EPQs are not considered within our scoring.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - Not accepted

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

Overall score of 36 points with a mark of 6 in 3 Higher Level subjects one of which must be Chemistry or Biology. If English and Maths not offered at GCSE, this must be offered with a mark of at least 5 at Standard level.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

A minimum of 6 GCSEs grade 6 or above required in Maths, English Language, Biology and Chemistry or Dual Science.

University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT)
All applicants to the undergraduate medicine course are required to take UCAT. This test must be taken in the year of application and alternative admissions tests are not accepted. For 2026 entry, the test will therefore be taken between July and September 2025. UCAT is a computer-based admissions test used by a consortium of UK and international universities to help select applications for the medical and dental degree programmes. We strongly recommend you prepare for the test. There are many materials to help you on the UCAT website. The result from the first attempt only will be accepted and must be taken in the year of application.
