Course summary
OVERVIEW
Whether it’s helping patients recover from surgery, sports injuries, accidents and strokes or supporting people with disabilities and long-term illness, the role of a physiotherapist cannot be underestimated. Our Physiotherapy degree will give you the empowering skills to kick-start your career in this rewarding, science-led field.
Gaining a strong foundation of anatomical knowledge, you will learn how to diagnose and rehabilitate across a range of conditions, as well as how to prevent illness and disease and apply your wealth of knowledge to complex situations. You will gain substantial practical experience honing your physiotherapy skills through work placements in a range of real-life environments. This hands-on education is not only essential for the course, but enables you to experience the dynamic areas where a physiotherapist may work. Plus you will have access to some of the most cutting-edge training facilities in the country, including our purpose-built simulation suite and strength and conditioning suite.
Crucially, upon successful graduation, you should be eligible to apply for registration for the title of Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and for membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), opening up a wide range of career possibilities for you within a whole host of dynamic health and social settings.

FACILITIES
You will have access to University College Birmingham's Health Skills and Simulation Suite. This purpose-built facility includes a six-bed replica hospital ward and a simulated community care environment, closely replicating real-life settings you may encounter in your future career.
In addition, our purpose-built Human Performance Centre and Laboratory features the latest equipment and technology to support strength and conditioning.
PLACEMENTS
Our course requires you to accrue 1,000 hours of practice-based learning activities by the end of your degree.

University College BirminghamProsthetics for Film and Television, MAFrom 2016-2018 I studied Art, Photography and Psychology A-Levels at Princethorpe College, Rugby, and after not being too sure of what I wanted to study at university I decided to throw myself into full time employment. Alongside the masters degree, University College Birmingham gave me the opportunity to work for them as an intern in the Marketing Department as part of the masters internship bursary scheme, where my course is paid for in the form of 400 hours of work over the academic year (September-July), which has been a huge benefit for myself financially. I also work as a part time front of house team member at a restaurant in Birmingham city centre, I enjoy this job a lot as I get to interact with lots of different people, I also feel very accepted there as I am free to express myself with my piercings, tattoos and makeup. UCAS Tariff - 128 points
Level 3 qualifications are accepted at UCB for entrance, a minimum of 128 UCAS Tariff points will be required.

- UCB will accept will also take into consideration applicants who are studying an extended project.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM
From one of the following subjects:
- Applied science, applied biomedical science, applied human biology.
- Sports and exercise science, health and social care - These two subject areas must include an anatomy and physiology unit.
DDM can be achieved from either an Extended Diploma or a combination* of smaller BTEC qualifications.
*If you are not studying an Extended Diploma in one of the related course subjects above, we will also consider 6, 9 or 12 Unit BTECs in the subject areas stated providing you are also studying additional level 3 qualifications that would sufficiently meet our tariff requirements.
Access to HE Diploma - D: 30 credits

GCSEs: Please note all GCSE qualifications must have been achieved prior to applying for this course. Applications submitted without these requirements will not be considered.
GCSE/IGCSE English language grades 9-4 (grade A*-C) or equivalent.
GCSE/IGCSE Mathematics grades 9-4 (grade A*-C) or equivalent.
Year 1 Entry: Students who are studying a combination of different qualification types will receive an offer that will be inclusive of all Level 3 qualifications.

- Students must also complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. UCB will coordinate and fund the completion of the DBS check.
- Interview
- The Admissions team will use the entrance criteria as well as your personal statement, reference and work experience information to shortlist candidates for interview. All interviews will take place after the 15 January UCAS equal consideration deadline. Successful applicants will be invited to an interview which will comprise multiple mini interviews (MMIs) and a group task. The above forms part of the selection criteria for this course.

- Non-academic entry requirements It is expected that applicants gain voluntary work or work experience shadowing a physiotherapist in order to have a good, clear understanding of what the profession entails. It might be that you have work experience organised, but haven’t undertaken it yet. If so, please don’t let this stop you from applying. We just need to know what your plans are to demonstrate your commitment to and passion for the profession. We do understand, however, that this is not always easy to obtain and if this is the case, we would encourage applicants to gain knowledge in other ways. You could speak with qualified physiotherapists, read industry publications or do some research online. Useful websites include The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and NHS Health Careers.

Additional fee information
UK:
If you are a UK student enrolling on a Foundation Degree or a BA/BSc at University College Birmingham in 2021/22, your fee for this academic year will be £9,250. A half year tuition fee is £4625.
This is a yearly fee, and will increase with inflation in subsequent years (in line with the government’s permitted rise).
If you are an English student studying your first higher education qualification, you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company. You will not start repaying this loan until you leave the course and are earning over £25,000 a year.
If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you should apply to Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland, or SAAS. The loans and grants available to you will differ from those available from Student Finance England.
