Course summary

Head and neck conditions present some of the most complex challenges in modern healthcare. These conditions need nuanced clinical judgement and multidisciplinary collaboration. They also require a strong grounding in evidence-based practice.

This course offers an opportunity for you to deepen knowledge and understanding of this evolving specialty. As the course is fully online, you will be able to do this while continuing professional practice.

This course focuses on knowledge enrichment rather than hands-on technical training. It will give you a comprehensive academic framework to support high-level clinical decision-making. Core topics will include:

  • head and neck oncology principles

  • radiology

  • pathology

  • radiotherapy

  • chemotherapy and immunotherapy

  • functional rehabilitation

  • trauma and emergency care

  • reconstructive strategies

  • ethics

  • research methodology

Your learning is grounded in real-world clinical scenarios. This will allow you to critically appraise evidence and evaluate landmark trials. You will also apply contemporary thinking to complex cases that you encounter in practice.

The course is delivered through flexible online distance learning. This means that the course is designed to fit around demanding professional commitments.

You will engage with teaching methods such as:

  • expert-led video lectures

  • podcasts

  • guided readings

  • discussion forums and virtual classrooms

This will allow you to learn at your own pace while benefiting from interaction with international faculty and a global peer group.

Assessment is authentic and clinically relevant. It will focus on case-based discussions, recorded presentations and reflective engagement rather than traditional exams.

Choosing Dundee means studying with a university internationally recognised for excellence in medical education and innovative online learning.

The course draws on the expertise of experienced clinician-educators within the School of Medicine. This is supported by high-quality digital learning design. You will also have access to extensive electronic library resources.

You will gain not only advanced subject knowledge, but also critical appraisal skills, academic confidence and professional insight. This will enable you to enhance leadership, teaching, research and multidisciplinary practice worldwide.
