About the course
Our Foundation Year in Mathematics is ideal if you want to pursue a degree in mathematics, but your qualifications do not meet the entry requirements for a three-year course.
In the Department of Mathematics, you'll consolidate and develop your mathematical skills in new as well as familiar areas. After passing your Foundation Year, you can continue studying for a range of BSc degrees. Depending on your performance, you can study at MMath level.
Accreditation
This programme will meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation, awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, when it is followed by subsequent training and experience in employment to obtain equivalent competences to those specified by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for taught masters degrees

Study on our beautiful, green campus on the edge of the South Downs National Park and just minutes from the vibrant seaside city of Brighton & Hove. We’re near to Gatwick airport and just over an hour from London.

Qualification requirements
A level - CCC
A-levels must include Mathematics, grade C.
You will need evidence of a broad range of GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above (or grade C).
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - MMM
In addition to the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma, you will need an A-level in Mathematics, grade C.
You will need evidence of a broad range of GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above (or grade 4), including stronger grades in relevant subjects.
Access to HE Diploma
Applicants with a tariff score of at least 112 points and at least 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction
Applicants need to demonstrate a high level of Mathematics.
You will need to have GCSE (or equivalent) Mathematics with at least grade 5 (or grade B).
Scottish Higher - CCCCC
Highers must include Mathematics.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 27 points
From the full IB Diploma including Mathematics, with a grade of 4.
