Computer science is at the core of how we solve problems, build systems and shape the digital world. From software development to large-scale systems, it underpins every industry.
On this integrated master’s course, you will go beyond the fundamentals to develop advanced skills in designing, building and testing software systems. You will learn how to work with programming languages, development environments and modelling tools, while understanding how to structure applications and manage data effectively.
Building on the BSc, this MEng allows you to explore computing in greater depth, developing the confidence to tackle more complex challenges. Your learning is grounded in real world practice, preparing you to apply your skills across a wide range of industries.
We prepare students with powers of abstraction, the ability to design and not just implement, and to have a mindset suited for problem-solving, preparing you to work across a wide range of roles in the computing industry. You will be guided to acquire the skills to tackle today’s problems, but also to learn the foundations to adapt to and build intelligent solutions for the problems of the future.

Go further with an integrated master’s. This four-year MEng builds on the BSc, allowing you to deepen your knowledge and take on more advanced computing challenges.

Learn to design and build systems where explicit rules have not been articulated to be programmed into instructions but must be learned from data. You will be taught the underlying mathematical concepts and the high-performance software tools that makes this possible.
Use modern tools and techniques. Work throughout the development lifecycle to improve efficiency, scalability, and maintainability. This includes adopting contemporary programming languages, frameworks, development environments and modelling tools.

This four-year programme will enable you to pursue a career in any area of the computing industry. It has been designed to maximise student choice by allowing you to tailor the degree structure to suit your own interests.
During the first two years you will undertake a series of core modules, for example Programming, Computer Systems, and Mathematics. In your third year you can choose from a wide range of optional modules that reflect the specialist areas and key technologies of computer science that will be critical in the future. You will also work on an individual project with the potential to explore cutting edge technologies and innovative applications.
The fourth year particularly emphasises engineering design, management and industrial collaboration. You will take part in a group design project, working with a real industry customer or solving challenging problems through the imaginative application of technology. This programme is also available with a year in industry.
